Descendants of Dugald Munroe and Jane Cameron
Although definitive proof is lacking, Dugald Munroe is thought to be the son of a Neill
Munroe and grandson of Malcolm Munroe who lived in the vicinity of Union Church, now
southeast of Carthage, Moore County, North Carolina. This Malcolm is not the
same Malcolm Monroe whose descendants are charted elsewhere in this site. Jane
Cameron is likewise thought to be of the Cameron family around the community of the same
name, near the Moore/Cumberland County line.
Much of the information on this page is provided by Mrs. Margaret D. Bardin, a
descendant of Dugald's, who has done extensive work on this line, primarily on the family
of J. Peter Munroe and his son, Edmund Marshall Munroe. Some information on other
lines is taken from Monroe's of the Upper Cape Fear Valley, by Alex Patterson.

Peter was a building contractor, building numerous churches including Montpelier near
Wagram (1852), Bethel near Raeford (1862), Galatia between Fayetteville and Raeford, Pee
Dee Presbyterian and Spring Hill Baptist in Montgomery Co., The Laurinburg Academy
and the Montgomery County Courthouse. He was a founder of the Sandy Grove
Presbyterian Church and was its Session Clerk for many years.
